Identity Crisis

I am having a bit of an identity crisis lately. I'm a photographer who hasn't gone out with my camera since right before Dad died. I'm a bookbinder, yes, doing that a lot lately. My day job certainly doesn't define me. I'm a writer who has not gotten out a pen in a very long time. Hmmmmm....

My main label these days, really, is photographer, as I have my work hanging in a local bakery this month, a gourmet pizza place next month, and lining more places up as we speak. I simply need to make friends with my camera again. That's all there is to it. I have a wooded area to explore and perhaps should do that this evening after the treadmill.

I'm constantly, it seems, re-prioritizing in life. It's like I line things up on the dash of the car, and as I drive-- or life happens-- they shift naturally. I then have to line them all back up again. Maybe I should find a more stable surface than the dashboard. Is that what I'm doing wrong? When I organize my life, am I not doing that step properly? I need some advice here! How do YOU keep all your ducks in a row and claim your true self?

((((((((((SIS))))))))) Unfortunately, i have no advice for you since I am currently lost in the confusion of life also. Hopefully, as we both take this journey, we will be able to help each other along the way. :)

Robyn, I think you are doing just fine. I KNOW you love photography and you were taking time to heal. Treadmill, explore woods. Go..... and I just know you will be reinspired all over again with you new gorgeous surroundings. Cant wait to see what's out ther for you to find. Sandy

Ducks never stay in a row. They swim, waddle, and fly off at their own whimsey. Just keep track of them and focus on the one that feels right at that particular time. Creativity doesn't like to be forced. Your true self does not just have to be only a photographer. Your true self is Robyn, who is a mother, photographer, writer, and book binder. Just be and ride the wave of the creativity of that moment.

I too struggle to define who I am when the truth is I am so many things. Mother, wife, jewelry artist, mosaic artist and an office manager to name a few. Each day presents a new "MIX" if you will of all my facets. I trick is to balance. If you figure that one out, let me know!

I love Kevin's comment and agree totally! He said it so well!
I'm looking to find a balance too Kari.

Hi Robyn! I am another balance seeker. In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means "crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living." Any or all of the above, we all are on our way, making our own sweet music, and our balancing acts are not for naught.

I think shifting is good! If your ducks were always lined up, your passions would become stagnant. I think you'll find that when you're ready to pick up your camera again you'll be amazed at the beauty you find through the lens. Your creativity will overflow, spilling out into the beautiful photographs you are known for.
